The style if you had the time...

Recommended Posts

I train in a mix of Shotokan and Goju ryu. Shotokan has been the constant in my martial arts life, I have also dabbled with kobudo, aikido, judo and TKD (roughly in that order in terms of how much)

If I were to regularly train in a second martial art, I would go for either judo or jujutsu

thats a good choice, and would be a great mixture with your Shotokan.

I think that there is no 1 style , and that to truly become a great martial artist and person you must take information from where ever you can.

I would like to learn Koga Ryu Ninjitsu (toshindo or bujinkan if koga is not available). This style has the aikido, grappling and striking mix that would go best with my current style making certain situations easier to deal with.

My current style is kajukenbo self defense.

Baguazhang-could be another style, but finding a good teacher for the liang style would be really hard. The footwork and the dexterity developed would make my overall martial arts improve a lot.

Well it looks like I'll be cross training in one of the arts that I listed :o

Well to be honest I was gunning for BJJ as I found a really nice gym not too terribly far away and wanted to brush up on submission work for judo. However the goal for cross training was that the GF wanted to train too but classes are separated by gender at the kodokan. She wasn't too interested in the BJJ, but liked a local kyokushin dojo a lot so it looks like some striking may be in my very near future. :karate:

Would you happen to need a personal servant or body guard? :karate:

I work cheap and can bring my wife and girls to round out the staff of your new household servants. We work cheap cheap. I mean, floor space to sleep, food and training as all we require. Real money not needed. And if you tell my wife I made this offer, I will do the three things all husbands do in such cases. Deny, blame you for a drunken liar and beg for mercy! :D

Good luck with the training sir. The sub work for judo, if you are in a good place would provide and excellent base for later BJJ work. BJJ may focus on the ground and do very well there, but their sylibus is 96% judo, just more technically developed. And if your aiming toward Kyokushin, and having judo, your going to have a strong pairing. A touch of combined work now and then and you'll have a super strong base.

I would do judo, I would like to learn judo with and with out the gi. I like karo paryisans style. I just think it would be fun.

Also would like to do Tai chi, I did very little of it a few times awhile back. However after training I felt relaxed and really good. I would primarily study it for relaxation.

arnis/eskrima/kali would be fun to do.

I have studyed in the past and would like to contiue with it but finding a good instructor in Hakutsuru is difficult. I studyed in Shihan Tony Sandoval's methods of the Art. It is really good. I think its fun, and helps me understand how to use my body better.
