Bitseach
News just in - from http://www.bbc.co.uk in the News section. "The United States authorities say they have prevented a plot to attack the country using a radioactive dirty bomb. US Attorney-General John Ashcroft said a known terrorist, Abdullah al-Mujahir, had been apprehended on 8 May in Chicago while planning to build and explode a radiological dispersion device. He said that Mr al-Mujadir, whom he described as an operative for the Islamic militant al-Qaeda network, posed a serious and continuing threat to the US and had been put in the custody of the Defence Department. Mr al-Mujahir, a US citizen also known as Jose Padilla, was in prison in the US in the early 1990s before visiting Afghanistan and Pakistan and meeting al-Qaeda officials, Mr Ashcroft said." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~My karma will run over your dogma~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ZR440
If they can prove it they should shove one down the front of his pants and detonate it. It's happy hour somewhere in the world.

ckdstudent
One important note, from what I can gather from the description, which is pretty minimal, it wasn't a nuclear bomb but more an explosive one designed to spread radioactive material. Still nasty, but a big difference between the two. ---------Pil SungJimmy B
Bitseach
CK - yes, a "dirty bomb" is a conventional explosive device with radioactivity near or around it. It's purpose is to spread the radioactivity over a wide area, contaminating that area. It is therefore unlikely to kill many people immediately but will cause widespread panic and disruption. I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice the very convenient timing of the release of this information, straight after the stinging criticism even from within America of the security services and even - gasp - the Prez there. Especially so soon after the announcement of the new body co-ordinating "homeland defence" (horrid expression!). As the chap who was arrested is an American citizen, how come he is being sent off to Gitmo Bay with the other Al Qa'eda lot? Surely as a home-grown terrorist he is technically breaking Federal law but not an "unofficial combatent" as the rest of the alleged terrorists have been branded (unfortunately not literally!)? As such, I would have though he'd have to - legally - be held in a federal prison and tried by the fed govt. Like that McVeigh fellow? Anyone know the answer to this? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~My karma will run over your dogma~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Don Gwinn
Oh, no! He's an "enemy combatant." We know this because John Ashcroft says it's so. Pay close attention: We are holding him with no access to a lawyer. He was held for a month before they even admitted having him, probably either to bolster the Feebs' image or because someone was about to leak it. He has been charged with nothing. We are able to do this because he was engaged in a plot to explode a dirty bomb in the U.S. We know this because he has bad connections and has visited websites which discuss how to do this (if you're wondering, no, that would not stand up in court. Not even close.) How do we know this? We assume it, and thus begin again at the start of the circle. ____________________________________* Ignorant Taekwondo beginner.http://www.thefiringline.com
