G95champ Posted June 9, 2002 Posted June 9, 2002 Techinque is better than power. Lewis beat Tyson by controling the distance. Tyson could not hit him. The better techinque won and thats great for Martial Arts. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
kicker Posted June 9, 2002 Posted June 9, 2002 Yes I agree, Lewis didn't let tyson come close to him so he won. If he didn't do that well tyson could have won. when you do your best it`s going to show. "If you watch the pros, You will learn something new"
Ti-Kwon-Leap Posted June 10, 2002 Posted June 10, 2002 Don't even pretend that Lewis lacked power. He had Tyson's head bobbling like one of those little dogs in an elderly person's back window. Lewis made Tyson look like a contestant in celebrity boxing. The fight exemplified the contrast between thoughtless rage and focused strategy. This may be a little off-subject but I really ejoyed watching the rapist/wife beater/ear-biter/road-rager/degenerate get the stuffin knocked out of him. My hope is for a personality overhaul not unlike the one that occoured in George Foreman after Ali deflated his fat ego. Good luck on that one...heh. _________________ "It is not enough to aim, you must hit." -Italian Proverb [ This Message was edited by: Ti-Kwon-Leap on 2002-06-09 22:18 ] Ti-Kwon-Leap"Annoying the ignorant since 1961"
Knuth Posted June 10, 2002 Posted June 10, 2002 Lewis has plenty of power behind his punches but never really capitalized on it. There were plenty of times where he could have finished it with a jab+cross combo but didn't for some reason. His stategy DID work though, obviously . I predicted a 9th round KO by Lewis. Oh-well I was close. Semper Fi
Ti-Kwon-Leap Posted June 10, 2002 Posted June 10, 2002 His corner was instructing Lewis to finish Tyson early on, but in his interview, Lewis was not interested in forcing it but merely waiting for the proper time. I, for one wanted to see some boxing, not some one or two round slugfest. Ti-Kwon-Leap"Annoying the ignorant since 1961"
G95champ Posted June 10, 2002 Author Posted June 10, 2002 Lewis had power but no boxer IMO has ever had the power of Tyson. Lewis won because he had more techinque. Much more techinque..... (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
Ti-Kwon-Leap Posted June 10, 2002 Posted June 10, 2002 I used to love watching tyson fight just for that reason, but now I just have contempt for him. There was a time when I had some respect for Tyson but not anymore. Last night, after all that trash talk that preceeded the fight, Tyson was brown-nosing, saying how much respect he had for Lewis and then said something like "I hope you give me another shot at the title". The man has no redeeming qualities. In my opinion, Tyson has taken all the art out of boxing and turned it into something ugly. The only reason I watched the fight is to see him mopping the floor with his face. Thank you Lewis! Maybe this post belongs in a "Tyson is a low life" thread but I don't want to waste space on this Board with the name of a man who should be still in prison, or at least banished from boxing. Bitter? ...Me??? Nah! Ti-Kwon-Leap"Annoying the ignorant since 1961"
G95champ Posted June 10, 2002 Author Posted June 10, 2002 I agree he has done more than his share of bad things. I too don't like him as much as I once did mainly because of the racist and sexist things he says. However he did say last night everything he said about Lewis was to promote the fight. I tend to buy that. Tyson may have gotten one over on us last night because I think he knew he could not beat Lewis but he needed the pay day so he sold the fight. I have heard him say many times he gives the people what they want to see from him. He may be right and smarter than us. LOL... I wish Customotto (spelling) had not died because he had Tyson at a leval no one could match (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
Bretty101 Posted June 10, 2002 Posted June 10, 2002 I think lewis is quite a boring figter, just jab, jab-jab, jab, jab, jab. Quite dull and he doesn't really have a way with words. Lets face it were you watching the lewis fight or the Tyson fight... every one wants to see tyson. I think they are both well past it!! That fight should have been on years ago that would have been much more interesting. BTW i recall Mike Tyson saying the hardest hitting heavy weight he's fought was Frank Bruno!!!! Bitseach Posted June 10, 2002 Posted June 10, 2002 I was SO hacked off that it was only on Pay-Per-View here in the UK and the news only was able to show stills! Aargh! Where I live we are not allowed a satellite dish (listed building), cable does not serve us and bloody ITV Digital have gone bust! So I couldn't see the fight. I was really glad to see Tyson get his arse whipped though - he really is an objectionable little man! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~My karma will run over your dogma~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
