G95champ Posted June 9, 2002 Posted June 9, 2002 You can only win once you learn to loose. Right now I know it is not much fun loosing but once you grow up and develope you will have an advantage on most of us. Because you are forced to always fight people older faster and stronger. Many of us fall into the trap of fighting people not as good as us a lot and it lowers our ability. Im a Football Coach (american) we always fear our guys playing to the other teams leavel. Instead of at there own. When we play bad teams we are bad to get sloppy and make the game close when it should not be. Then when we play big teams becasue we played sloppy last week we can't get it out of our system. Playing or working aginst people that are better than you makes you better. Look at Mike Tyson the last 3 fights he has had aginst quality fighters he has lost. Holleyfield twice and Lewis last night. On the ohter hand Lewis has been beating quality fighters really close. Use this as a learning expierance because it will make you better. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
ckdstudent Posted June 9, 2002 Posted June 9, 2002 In a football game though you're not trying to teach the other team, you're trying to beat them. In a class you should be trying to teach someone junior to you, rather than beat them. ---------Pil SungJimmy B
G95champ Posted June 9, 2002 Posted June 9, 2002 Lets not get into apples and oranges here. LOL...... Im not sure where the teaching thing came in but as I read the post you were upset because you were not landing any techinques. I was saying don't worry about it. You learn by failure. If you never fail you wil have a unrealistic view of your ability. Im sorry I think the better people you spar the better you will become. However a win or 2 here helps with the confidence. Knuth Posted June 10, 2002 Posted June 10, 2002 Last wrestling season I was continualy matched against people who were much better than me. Both at practice and at meets. My lousy record proves it . While I may not of won a lot of matches I believe my skills have increased dramaticly more than if I only wrestled people at or below my level. And next season I think I will be a lot better than last. I believe with this example we are comparing apples to apples . Semper Fi
muaythaiposer Posted June 10, 2002 Posted June 10, 2002 no worries about the disadvantages...i'm a chick and only 5'3"; i've sparred guys way bigger than me (though i know they go easy with the power). there aren't a lot of girls in san shou, but i love fighting with the guys cuz makes me feel like i'm tough enough to be in their league, but also i'm able to learn from their rookie mistakes. being able to train with the guys, i can push myself a little more (also cuz they're friends) and i'm not sorry i hit them. when i joined KB, i had to fight much more experienced girls who were also bigger then me. usually, the vets will be more like sempais, correcting you on technique as you go, or even giving you openings that you can learn/perceive and know to take advantage of. bottom line, RESPECT, and no one gets hurt
Eye of the Tiger Posted June 10, 2002 Author Posted June 10, 2002 Basicly at my kickboxing club I'm Tyson and everyone else is Lewis. I relize I really have to duck a bit more and then come up with some uppercuts and hooks. As someone is more powerful than me I have what they don't and thats agility. They can keep me at a distance where I can't evenc come with a punch so they just keep jabbing me in the face and it really takes the piss. Even when I duck they can still get me. The only thing I could do to avoid them was to do a lot of side stepping and doing flying jabs towards his face. Basically I find the best thing is to really be aggresive in a martial art such as kickboxing. THX FOR THE REPLYS
