Wearing club logos or clothes on the street?

The only shirts that I wear in public are pretty subtle. They have a small logo for the style on the left chest, but they don't scream "I'm a Black Belt."

I like club shirts- its a camaraderie thing- but the "i'm a black belt" ones, I also think may bring about the crazies.

I am of the same opinion as the majority here: shirts that brag of rank or title should not be worn on the street, nor should the dobok/gi. School logos are good advertising and give a sense of camaraderie so I am not opposed to them at all.

Good point about the gi. That's probably my biggest pet peeve.

They are just clothes.If you bought them why noy wear them?I ride a motorcycle also,when I wear a bike shirt it does not mean I am looking for a race.When I wear a dojo shirt or jacket or a tounament shirt it is only showing my support for the art or sport.If I was looking for an altercation I would not care what shirt I was wearing unless it was a good shirt.You better not bleed on one of my good shirts! I've seen people wearing them in the grocery store... sometimes I've even been guilty of running into the store in my gi pants and a t-shirt after class. As for the clothing, I'd say it's not a big deal as long as the shirt isn't a show-off, look at how tough I am type of thing. Personal preference really.

I understand the point that you are trying to make here, but not everyone looks at MA clothing the same way. When people see MA related things, they immediately think about fighting, and that is where the problem comes in. It shouldn't be looked at differently, but with MA, it draws a different type of attention.

One kind of double-standard that I would mention is that I don't think you would see the same kind of thing if someone wore their high school Wrestling shirts or hoodies. I think it is weird, but many others would not. Of course, I view Wrestling as much of a valid Martial Art as I do Karate, TKD, or BJJ, so it seems like a double-standard from my point of view.

Why would you care what they think?Do you not think maybe they would have a problem with you no matter what you were wearing?Maybe its the place or type of clientel of the place,if so maybe you were looking for trouble just by going there.I choose to wear what I want when I want and where I want.I have met many interesting people and had many interesting conversations I would not have had if I had not been wearing a MA t shirt.Also shirts are given as gifts and purchased by relatives and friends of members.Just because someone wears a shirt does not mean to me that they necessarily train themselves,but I would probably ask them if they train and how long,etc.If you wear a Dale Earnhart shirt I would not assume you are him or even a race car driver.T shirts can be excelent conversation starters.
