Random hair color change question

Had a quick question about changing my hair color.

I'm male, late teens, really dark brown hair. I want to change my hair color to a light brown. How can I do this cheaply? I was looking at the "Just For Men" shampoo in color but that targets only the gray hairs. I want to spend less than $20. How can I do this? I've never done anything like this before so any advice is great.

The FBI witness protection program told me to...

Seriously, I don't really have a good reason, I just feel like doing it. Sounds really weird and random. My last impulsive decision to change my hair was to buzz it... and my girlfriend wasn't too happy that I didn't tell her beforehand. In all honesty though, I just feel like it.

I got something figured out--had a friend be my guinea pig today so now that I know what it looks like, I'm going to do it.

Go to walmart- in the hair and stuff aisle, there are tons. Just be sure to get what you want- level 1 lasts a couple of days, level 2 a few weeks and level 3 is pretty permanent. also, look on the side of the boxes for

if your current color is....., then it will look ......after the dye. with little boxes showing the colors. It may be light brown for someone with dark hair or blonde hair, but not so much for people who already have brown.

Just my tips :)
