pittbullJudoka
I've been following this story for the last few days to see if there is any truth to it. After tonights main event at TUF finals Big John will retire. This is yet another changing of the guard in the world of mma. For those of you who would like to check out an interview with him in which he explains his reason for retirement. Go to mmaweekly.com they have the entire stories. All I can say is fair well Big John your the best ref in mma.
marie curie
Yeh, i was following too- but he has a lot on his plate, teaching self-defense to LAPD, and running his own gym.http://www.bjmuta.com/ You suck-train harder.......................Don't block with your faceA good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving. -Lao Tzu
pittbullJudoka
He's been teaching self defense for the LAPD since before he started working with the UFC. Also he teaches seminars on reffing and scoring mma.
bushido_man96
Wow, that really is too bad. He has been there for so much of the history of modern MMA, and has seen the evolution of the style first-hand.Hate to see him go. Good luck to the big guy. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
marie curie
Yeh, but he's not leaving the community, just this one position (the more visible, yes, but not necessarily the most important) You suck-train harder.......................Don't block with your faceA good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving. -Lao Tzu
bushido_man96
Ah. I see then. Doing work behind the scenes more will probably keep him very involved, then.I would love to be able to check out his gym. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
pittbullJudoka
I'm hoping for his scoring system for mma to be put into place to get rid of the current boxing scoring system that is currently being used. He will still have a big influince on mma.
bushido_man96
What does his scoring system include? https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
ericjones80
I think he should be in the UFC HOF...I also would really like to see him scoring bouts as I believe someone mentioned. I don't know what kind of sanctions you need to be a judge, but he could definitely turn some of the shotty scoring around I support Gym Jones I use AWMA
pittbullJudoka
I've not seen anything but he is working on a scoring system just for mma. I'm sure that in his scoring system take downs alone won't mean so much especially if you don't do anything with them or can control your opponant on the ground. Also I think he'll have something about looking at sub attempts and how busy the guy on the bottem is. Just things that the boxing scoring system can't take into consideration. His scoring ayatem could only be better than what's currently in use.
