Brady Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 I have been training in Shorin-ryu for several years, and (with my sensei's ok) I will be starting to train in traditional jujutsu at another dojo. I wear my Federation patches (2) on my gi, and i am not really interested in getting another. Do i need to remove my AOSKKF patches to train in the new dojo?Brady "You can't learn karate from a book. bushido_man96 Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 Yeah, you may have to. In the end, you may have to wind up getting another gi, because each probably has its own set of patches and other criteria. You don't have to spend a lot on a new gi right away, either. Get a middle or lightweight gi to start with, and then save money along the way for a nicer one. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Zorbasan Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 i wouldnt recomend wearing a karate gi for jiu jitsu anyway, you will probably find it gets ripped to shreds. you probably want to get a good JJ gi that is designed for the grappling Now you use head for something other than target.
pittbullJudoka Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 You'll definately had to atleast get a judo top or your current gi top will be smoked in a matter of a couple throws. Plus when you start learning chokes the thicker lapel of the judo gi won't cut into your neck as bad. Plus the thicker lapel doesn't put you at the rick of colasped veins and arteries from chokes.
marie curie Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Yeh, for Jiu Jitsu, you will need a Jiu Jitsu or Judo (sometimes a few bucks cheaper) top, here are some :http://www.martialartssupplies.com/judoaikido.htmlhttp://www.judogis.com/http://www.karatedepot.com/judogi.htmlhttp://www.judoinfo.com/gi.htmhttp://www.brazilianfightwear.com/store/stores_app/store.asp?Store_Id=117&page_id=5http://www.jiujitsugi.com/http://www.nhbgear.com/Jiu-Jitsu-Gis-c-5.htmlAnd if your Shorin Ryu gi is actually a judo/jiujitsu gi, then, yeh, they'll probably want you to take the patches off. nago Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 I would say never take something from one dojo into another. It is disrespectful. At least where I am. Just my opinion.

Just my opinion. If it is loaded with patches and school identifications, then I would agree with you. However, if you have a plain white gi, then I don't think it would be a big deal. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com

bushido_man96 Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 I think you are right there. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Isshinryufanatic Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 I'd at least get a new top. A either judo or ju-jitsu top (said to death by now, lol). Lucky the only patches I have are the Mizu-Gami and the Okinawa patch so it usually isn't a problem but some other dojos might have problems with association patches.
