circleplus Posted June 6, 2002 Posted June 6, 2002 hello, i am a 19 year old from detroit looking for a wise master from which to learn martial arts. i lack discipline and knowledge, but i have potential and compassion. if there is a master out there who reads this or if someone who reads this knows a master please contact me. circleplus@hotmail.com
G95champ Posted June 6, 2002 Posted June 6, 2002 Good luck on your search but I would look for a teacher and not a Master. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
Pacificshore Posted June 6, 2002 Posted June 6, 2002 Hi there! Do you have a specific interest in what Martial Arts you want to learn? Have you searched your area for what you are looking for? These are probably good places to start your search. Good luck and welcome aboard. Di'DaDeeeee!!!Mind of Mencia

circleplus Posted June 7, 2002 Author Posted June 7, 2002 thank you all. i will start my search here in detroit. i think i will find what i'm looking for more easily because i'm not in search of a specific martial arts style. i'm simply in search of strength and wisdom. hopefully i will find it.
shotochem Posted June 7, 2002 Posted June 7, 2002 You need not worry, Strength and Wisdom come from within. With time and experience it will come. A teacher or master will teach you a martial art not about life. I am 15 years older than you and I still seek more. If you want to learn a martial art, do it for pleasure, fitness or whatever reason. If you are looking for enlightenment, or spirituality try a priest, rabbi or other religious leader. People falsly tend to equate a "master" or teacher with being a higher or better person when they are really just the same as you or I only they know more of a martial art........ Good luck to you, and welcome :karate: :karate: Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.
circleplus Posted June 7, 2002 Author Posted June 7, 2002 it's not spirituality i seek. i lack discipline and i realize i need it. i am also weak in body. i figured i'd kill two birds with one stone by learning a martial art. if you have a suggestion on which is best for this sort of thing i please let me know, for my knowledge of martial arts is minimal. i'm also looking for my first dojo. what questions should i ask them before i commit to training?
G95champ Posted June 7, 2002 Posted June 7, 2002 I posted some questions in the general MA section. That may have been your post I forgot. LOL. IF you know that much about yourself already you have done learned one of the greatest lessons Martial Arts can hope to ever teach. When we see our own faults we can fix them but most of us are blind of our actions. You will do fine. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
SaiFightsMS Posted June 8, 2002 Posted June 8, 2002 Hello circleplus welcome to the forum. You might try looking for programs at local Y's and rec centers. Sometimes they have excellant programs.
