what isa freestyle example freestyle karate a how r they different from traditionalstyle version of that said martial art.

i no this might b a noob question but ive always wondered that

you must learn different combinations of techniques down to your very soul and they must come without thinking when you finish with one technique, you must immediately go into another until you have attained your goal which is to destroy the enemy.

I knew a guy who took "freestyle karate." He told me it just meant that they weren't affiliated with any one system (shotokan, Ishin Ryu ect...).

I've started learning freestyle kickboxing, and while it's my first MA I've learnt, it seems to encompass all the 'standard' kicks and punches of kickboxing, with Muay Thai shins and some basic arm and leg sweeps throw in so far as well. As I've only been going for 4 weeks it's hard to tell what we'll eventually learn, but from the way we're taught I think that they'll be some knee and elbow strikes as well.

As our instructor has trained in various MA's before (I can't remember specifically which off the top of my head now) I think he basically teaches wht he's found to be the most effective techniques for fighting - be it in sparring or a 'proper' street fight situation.

From my own reading online I think 'freestyle' can mean a lot of things, but at it's best it can encompass a lot more versatility than just the set MA you're learning, thus making you a more efficient artist.

Just my thoughts - I hope they make sense!
