DWx Posted September 20, 2007 Share Posted September 20, 2007 Has anyone got any good strategies for covering distance?I'm all right at fighting in close, either within sort of punching range or kicking range, but when my opponent is further away I find it really difficult to move fast and not telegraph my techniques. I usually end up getting caught on a counter or I'll end up doing one kick which is kinda far away from any targets.Any combo suggestions that cover ground would be great. Also, feinging a technique, like a round kick, may cause them to counter, and allow you to move accordingly.Stepping forward at a 45 degree angle can be helpful footwork, too. "Only fools rush in" is a perfect analogy.What I teach my people is to maintain your defense and move forward, preferably at an angle and not straight at your opponent. if possible, circle them moving towards their weaker side. If their left foot's forward, move towards your right and visaversa. cross Posted September 28, 2007 Share Posted September 28, 2007 You can also draw them in, so in a way they are the ones closing the distance.A simple way to do this involves using a basic technique, or a couple of techniques repeatedly while stepping back slightly, each time make the distance you step back shorter and shorter and they will be drawn in with the distance closing.
