jjonesx2 Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Looking to start my 7 and 5 year old sons in a martial arts school. We are looking at ATA BlackBelt Academy or another school that teaches a style mixed of the best techniques from Karate, TaeKwonDo, Judo, JuJutsu, Aikido, Arnis, Kung Fu and weapons. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Once your reasons for putting them in training are clearly defined, then its far easier to select the style that best fits what you are hoping for them to achieve. Also going down to the school itself and checking out the kids class to see what they are offering will give you a better idea of what they will get from the training and if its the right place for them.
jjonesx2 Posted September 15, 2007 Author Posted September 15, 2007 We have visited multiple schools and have narrowed it down to these two based on instructor, cost, location, class structure, class schedule and how the students respond in class. We are looking for futher discipline and physical activity for the boys. Basically looking for recommendations on what style might be better for the kids. Also have heard some things about ATA wanting you to sign different contracts.
danbong Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 another school that teaches a style mixed of the best techniques from Karate, TaeKwonDo, Judo, JuJutsu, Aikido, Arnis, Kung Fu and weaponsWhat's the name of this school? This sounds very familiar to this ad from the phone book "kenpo, tae kwon do, kobudo, jiu jitsu (brazilian), tai chi, arnis, streed defense, weapons, boxing, aikido, kick boxing" ichi-go ichi-e 一期一会one encounter, one chance
jjonesx2 Posted September 15, 2007 Author Posted September 15, 2007 It's the American Academy of MArtial Arts. This is the school we decided to go with.
bushido_man96 Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 The ATA tends to get a bad wrap a lot of the times. Most of this comes from their kids programs and promotions, and the contract signings. However, you have to evaluate each school on an individual basis, before making a decision. As for the other school, I had not heard as much of them. I think I have read about them briefly, but have never seen anything else on them. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Zanshin Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Can anyone expand on this ATA lot.Being from across the pond as it were, I have never heard of them.We have had the recent introduction of GKR in the UK, which, shall we say, have a "driven" approach to their propagation. Is this the same thing? "The difference between the possible and impossible is one's will""saya no uchi de katsu" - Victory in the scabbbard of the sword. Is this the same thing? Are you refering to their doorknocking approach? Its been happening in Australia for a long while. Not sure if its a tactic i agree with, but seems to work for them.
NightOwl Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 What is GKR? Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.~Theodore Roosevelt
cross Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Go kan ryu, style of karate created by an australian, to the best of my knowledge.
