Mischievousjoe Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 So, just to gloat a little, I havn't been able to train officially much lately as all the gyms around here are way over my price range (130-150 a month!! gotta pay the rent y'know..) But I saw a posting for a free mma class in my area. So I figured what the hell, one free mma class is better than no class at all, and packed my stuff up after work and headed out. now, to be fair I think I was more experienced at grappling than most of the guys there, but we started rolling after a few drills and I was hitting some sick submissions. An armbar from the back, upside down armbar from the guard, a couple of guilotines, and ::gasp:: a gogo-plata! the exotic of exotic submissions which I have never been able to pull off before. So I guess that class got it out of mysystem a little bit, but man.. I need to find a place to train again.::end rambling:: "I once thought that life was a mixed bag, now I know it's just a bag of all"
ps1 Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Ha! Wow! Sounds like you should approach them about being their grappling coach in return for free use of the gym. Afterall, if you're hitting gogo-plata, then they need help! Even though you're better than them, you could coach them up to your level and you would all benifit from it. bushido_man96 Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 It sounds like you got to have some fun, anyway. Perhaps ps1 is right, and you can work something out with training with them.I was wondering, though; what exactly is the gogo-plata? https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
gzk Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 The gogoplata is a choke in which the shin presses against the throat, usually from guard, here's a good demo: and one in no-gi competition it's not exactly a beginner's technique, nor one for those with as little flexibility as me. Mischievousjoe Posted September 16, 2007 Author Posted September 16, 2007 yeah, I'm not really that advanced - just more advanced than most of these guys.. its a fairly new club. They have a decent Jiu Jitsu instructor, so I don't think they'd really want my help instructing at all. But might be worth a shot anyway. Its frustrating right now, because now that i'm back in my home town for an extended period of time - and some decent gyms have opened up I can't afford to enroll in any of them. ::sigh:: ah well. bushido_man96 Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Thanks for the videos. That looks like a crazy kind of choke! https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Rainbow_Warrior Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I chocked a new dude with a gogoplata the other day ( from the full mount , not from the guard).... I can not do that with the average training mates yet , but I give them some pain with the technique. ´´ The evil may win a round , but not the fight ´´
bushido_man96 Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Very nice! It looks like a complex move to make work, though. Good work! https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
pittbullJudoka Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Hey man you deserve the right to brag the go goplata is hard enough to set up let alone sub someone with it. Congrats.
