YoungMan Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Duk Ki Sung is one of the few Tae Kyon masters to preserve the art to modern times. But he is deceased. He was named a Korean national treasure in 1986 I believe. Few people in Korea practice the art now, as it has been overshadowed by Tae Kwon Do.Incidentally, I have video footage of two guys practicing Tae Kyon sparring. Except for the sweeps (which we did not do in class because of the risk of accidents), it was quite similar to the way we free sparred. Sliding technique, circular kicking, jumping back roundhouse etc. There is no martial arts without philosophy.
wingedMonkey Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Ki-Hyun Dowho taught at Indiana University Bloomington in 1986-7He teaches now in Seoul and the website to the school is: http://www.taekyun.org/Youtube video of him is here : He appears here. I think this is from 1970?: http://youtube.com/watch?v=94_chalilh0He is the third guy in this Taekkyun masters video:http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZxCeXzk4GP8 "If I tell you I'm good, you would probably think I'm boasting, but if I tell you I'm no good, you know I'm lying." - Bruce Lee
bushido_man96 Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 The videos show Tae Kyon, but I don't see much info on the fact that it is the thousand years old Traditional Korean art. They state that one master carried it down, but from what lineage? The first video just stated one name, but not one from previous. The only reason that I question it is because of the fact that the Koreans have a history of propogating a history of these in reality newly founded arts, in order to attempt to segregate themselves from any connection with the Japanese. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
