wildfire Posted August 26, 2007 Author Posted August 26, 2007 You know how music conasuiers will sometimes say, "You have to listen to the notes they are not playing?" It's alot like that. To give a demonstration of principle, you have to have exagerated movements to display how a technique functions. The purpose of the video wasn't the same as the Krav Maga videos you see sometimes that displays a scenario (those were very good) but it seems the function was to display the elemental principles of the fighting philosophy of the style. Which depended largely on good foot work and conversion of opposing power.
Kajukenbopr Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 Then I saw the application, and again...wow..... It's so applicable, yet so pretty to watch!!!The applications look good if the idea is "how to do the form with a training partner", but if thats their idea of self defense training, im not so sure.i didnt post it here as a self defense demo, but as a form and application demo- it teaches you concepts to apply in baguazhang, not show practicality of the style in a self defense situation. <> Be humble, train hard, fight dirty
Mistassailant5 Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 I really like Pa Kua because of its circular movements which are the most powerful aspect of this art. Masters of the art can literally pop up behind you so make sure you master the circular movements. You may be also interested in Hsing-i because as the story goes, the founder of Pa Kua challenged a master of Hsing-i and they had a three day battle ending in Pa Kua's total victory, however, both masters agreed to have these arts learned in conjunction because hsing-i has more external properties while pa kua has more internal properties. I am not a fighter, I am a guardian.
Toptomcat Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 The version of the story most know- other than Pakua people, evidently- is that it ended in a draw.
