Azmyth Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Anyone else dissappointed in what UFC has become?I used to watch it alot..back when martial arts were distinguishableand there would be different styles vs. styles.. and they would actually wear the traditional uniforms for said style.now everyone is all this MMA stuff.. which is good but.. I miss the good ol days when everyone had a different style. "Fear does not exist in this dojo does it?"
bushido_man96 Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 I think that the UFC is more entertaining now than it was then. The the fighters are getting better all the time, and it is presented well. I do kind of miss the tournament format, but it is what it is now. I don't think there is any way that the way the fighters go today that they could do the tournament format, but I am not sure.I would not trade it back now. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Azmyth Posted August 13, 2007 Author Posted August 13, 2007 i'm not so much talking about the format..more so how the fighters are all the same..they all fight pretty much the same. call me old school..but I'd rather see a straight up.. TKD guy vs. a Jiu Jitsu guy.. over 2 guys who do a little of it all..I can't form opinions on them because to me.. they all seem relatively the same.they seem more like brawlers than martial artists.. but thats just one guys opinion..i guess i'm more of a traditionalist.. IKyokushinO-4 Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 I think the Ultimate Fighter Reality series is great!Andy Wang last season was so funny to watch. Kyokushin 4 Life!
bushido_man96 Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 The fighting has evolved from the style vs. style because of the success of some styles over others. However, I don't think that all fighters are the same. You have the strikers, and the GNPers, and then you have those who try to take it to the ground and get the submissions. You can still see what many of the fighters prefer to do, and that still gives the sport some individuality.I guess I don't mind the changes. Change can be a good thing. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
G95champ Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 It never was style vs style really. I mean yeah the first one you had a guy wear boxing gloves and guys in a gi but in reality we all throw round kicks and jabs.In todays world with the internet and tv I don't you could ever hope to see a true style vs style format. In all truth each style has a little of everything in it once you understand it enough. Style is only a place to start. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
marie curie Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 I must admit that I really enjoy watching TKD fight Japanes Karate, then one of them fight a judo guy, etc...Of course that wasn't a group of guys training for the same sport- it was people from different sports competing. Now everyone is just really well rounded, I think, and all around better fighters in that they can fight one art, then transition to another to better defend/attack. Azmyth Posted August 14, 2007 Author Posted August 14, 2007 if they would wear gi's that would make me happier.. I know wearing spandex shorts lets u move better..but they look too much like pro wrestlers for my taste.and where are the average Joe's? I'm sure there are guys that weigh 165lbs soaking wet that are 10x the fighters anyone in UFC is.. but unfortunately due to size.. they can't do much...I'm a small guy, and I'd rather see a flexible agile quick as lighting little guy over a big muscle pound wrestling looking dude any day of the week. Show some little guy love. "Fear does not exist in this dojo does it?"

Show some little guy love.hmm, well there is a lightweight divison, so that would fit around that wieght. Its just not as popular, and when it is, the champion gets caught with steroids and screws it up. "Time is what we want most, but what we use worst"William Penn
YoungMan Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 I have personally never found UFC exciting. In fact, to me it was downright boring. All I saw was two fighters who traded a few kicks and more punches (about 10/90) until they could get close enough to grapple. Then it was 15 minutes of attempted submissions. Why is that exciting?I would have loved to see a TKD fighter vs. karate or judo, in uniforms. At least then I would feel a little bond with the TKD guy and root for him.All I see is two guys in spandex shorts fighting pretty much the same way-Throw a few kicks to show it's not boxing, throw more punches, and grapple the rest of the time. It's boring. There is no martial arts without philosophy.
