I am wondering what exercises people from different styles use as internal training, be it: meditation(seated or moving), chi kung, katas, or any other way to train internally.

Hopefully we can learn from each other :karate:

u know, ive never had a chance to do much push-hands. mainly cause my main ma is external and not internal, but I really do think internal arts can help me develop my martial arts

I believe that ka-ke or push hands does exist in many okinawan arts, but doesn't go as in depth as the chinese internal arts do. We practiced a form of it back in the day, but the sensitivity wasn't developed as that wasn't the purpose of GKD.

However, now having practice the internal arts for a while now, I would say that standing qigong has it's pluses, and so do push hands, but in order to bring it all together, one would need to do the form as well, which is my favorite.

What do people mean by Internal training? Are they refering to timing? Sensitivity of your opponents movements by sight example (telegraphing) or by body contact when your opponent moves or before they move you can feel a littel pressure?

Or is it bioelectiricty (chi/ki)? Which that is the one thing I don't understand how it helps the physical abialities to perform movement. I never could feel its effects. I felt the warm heat of the engery when the hands are close together, however I never understood how to use it to effect movement.

Interal training is probably the least thing I understand about the martial arts.

I can understand mental trianing of postive thinking, dealing with issues you may not want to but should to become a better person. Or core training for the body, vizualzation I understand, example if you think of doing the movements fast the body reacts to that thinking and I am able to be a little bit faster in my movement.

However defining internal training and exactly what it is well....I have no idea.

Well, to not help things much the answer is yes... :P

What I think the original poster was referring to though is your favorite way to train in an internal art. There's things like push hands, Chi Kung(Quigong), Tai Chi(Taiji), Silk Reeling, meditation, and a million other forms of internal training. and they can be used for everything you've talked about. I've only studied a few of these though so I'm not an authority by any means.

There's some good posts in this forum about the topic of Chi/Ki and what people's view about it are if you're interested in it.

Thanks for the reply.

I guess it is a broad subject and hard to pin point what exactly it is.

The same with chi/ki all I have heard it to be was bioelectricty. How to use that to effect the effectivess of a nechnique is yet goes over my head.

Adonis i am HARDLY an official on chi/ki either but i will mention this XD

I usually have so much energy that i need to focus energy on supprrsing that energy otherwise i'd be on an almost constant sugar buzz XD I know what that type of energy feels like..i can literally FEEL it inside me :) it's pretty cool actually, and I can munipulate it at will (also, pretty cool) just remember what it feels like to have a sugar buzz..to have so much energy that you just go silly...dunno if this helps any O.o

but then get a handle of it and calm it down until you feel about the way that you started >.>

this is one 'exercise" thingy that i use myself >.> i have many ways to deal with internal training heh but this is the only way i can explain chi/ki to a person who doesn't seem to be able to understand it. tell them how to feel it and how to control it :P so yea...probably a long post, i wouldn't know..i'm using quick reply XD

I meditate sitting, I meditate lying on my back..i get up in the morning when the sun is bright, jump onto the trampoline, go through my leg stretches and then lay down on the trampoline and strecth anyways that makes my body feel good. I love to stretch it feels soooo goood :D

I put my music on and move like water..sometimes i do this without the music and just imagine the sound of the waves crashing on the shore and the water going back ad forth back and forth..well ya know.

and just take moments in the day to relax and enjoy a little peace and quiet.

(but yes..i've gotten so good..i don't need any sugar to get a sugar buzz..though i do enjoy a good bit of candy once in a while)

Strike first. 'Til then i will not fight you.

Everytime someone calls JKD a style, Bruce turns over.

Why do I love Bruce Lee? Not because he was an awesome martial artist- but because his train of thought overlapped with mine even before I knew about him.

Thank you karate forums, for introducing me to Bruce Lee

I know of bioelectiricty I felt the chi ball before between the hands. However I fail to understand the pracatical appilcation of it.

I have seen the touchless KO stuff. However I personally believe its a bit out t here. In my opinion fake.

So using for physical contact I still try to understand. Oh well maybe in time I will. I guess I won't worry about it any more.
