Dana Abbott

Recommended Posts

Has anyone actually seen this person in a seminar? My sons instructor constantly raves about him and his extraordinary abilities. We're having something called an "Arnold" in Ohio next year and this person will be at my sons Dojo. I"ve already signed up my son for one of his seminars.

Keeping in mind that I know very little about iaido, so maybe somebody can verify this for me. In the video, with the katana in his belt, the curve of the katana is on the top instead of the bottom...is that the correct way of placing it in his belt? :-? Or is it correct either way? I've never seen it that way before.

If you don't want to stand behind our troops, please..feel free to stand in front of them.

I think that this is the norm, but I don't think that doing it the other way is wrong. I can't say for sure, though.

I used to see him at the ASKA tourments in Arizona about 7 or 8 years ago. He was big into that foam sword sparring stuff. To my best of recoliection I believe it was called chanbarra or something like that.

Do you mean like the swords that you see Fumio Demura posing with in the Century magazines? I wondered about the weight and how those things do for training purposes.

In the most part the sword and "Saya" are placed in the Obi with curve / blade upwards.

Some drawing techniques involve the inverting of this momentarily before drawing if an upwards cut is required.

Also I remember reading somewhere that it could have something to do with the era, as originally the sword blade faced downward. But in most Iaido today the starting position is blade up.

We're having something called an "Arnold" in Ohio next year and this person will be at my sons Dojo.

The "Arnold" refers to the fitness extravaganza held in Columbus, Ohio. It is so named because Governor Arnold Schwartzneger began the event. It is the largest martial arts event in the United States. People come from all over the world to compete in the various events and attend the seminars. I just thought you'd want a little more info.

P.S. Beyond martial arts there are numerous other fitness events held there. It's extremely interesting. I hope you have fun.

Generally, the sword is worn with the blade upward. However, some swords, which were generally used while mounted on horseback, were worn blade down. It has to do with attaining the proper cutting angle.

Dana abbot is the real deal, a genuine badd mama jama that has good knowledge too. I believe that he invented the action flex brand of chanbarra swords and hands down they are the best in the world for it's purpose. My boss took a serminar from him and didn't stay for various reasons though. He thought it was a bit monotonous. but make know mistake he is the real deal. not a fake or poser.

place clever martial arts phrase here
