Shito-Ryu Itosu-Kai

Hello, all!

I am complete novice to MA, and just started shito-ryu karate, had my first class Thursday. I liked it really much, however I couldn't find any useful information in WWW about actual stances, blocks and strikes. Any resources in the Internet to use as reference? I was shown two basic stances, low, medium and high blocks, punch and two or three kicks - now I have troubles remembering all this stuff. And I would like to practice them at home.

Also, I was very surprised to be engaged in "kumite" (sparring) at the very first class. Is this normal for karate training?

This site is a great source of Info on Shito-ryu/kai

As to whether it's ok to do Kumite in your first lesson, as long as you were being well supervised and it was with a relatively experienced partner you should be ok. Importantly you should enjoy it.

There's also http://www.shitoryu.org Remember though, some of the techniques can vary from dojo to dojo, even in the same system. It's like the light bulb joke.

How many martial artists does it take to screw in a light bulb?

...

One, the rest of them all stand around him and say "Hm, we do it differently in my style"

There's no place like 127.0.0.1
