TraditionalDan Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 I am looking for a high quality karate gi and I may purchase one from Tokaido, or possibly Shureido.I am about 5'5 and have purchased a gi before, supposedly for my size, but the sleeves/trousers were to long, and the jacket too short. (For my preference anyway).I understand that Tokaido do a tournament gi, that has a longer jacket, and shorter sleeves/trousers.Has anyone purchased one from any of these companies or another? If so what were they like? Thanks. Absolutely loved it. Most quality gi manufacturers produce a variety of cuts. I prefer a slightly longer Jacket but don’t like the sleeves and trouser bottoms being too long; therefore I tend to go for a "Japanese" cut rather than "European".Kamikaze also do some really nice gi's so I would check them out as well if I were you. swdw Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 I used to be a Shureido fan until I got a Ronin heavyweight gi. I now have 2 of the 16 oz gis.To me the only difference in quality was the ties. And the way Ronin attaches the waist tie is smarter. Ronin gis also wrinkle more easily than Shureido gis. Still, I think provide great "bang for the buck".Ronin gis are slightly oversized. They breathe well and moving in them is very easy and comfortable. They come with long sleeves and pant legs, but you can have them tailored and still save LOTS of money over a Shureido. Please don't take this as advertising. I send people to the following link because they have incredibly low prices on the Ronin gis.http://www.discountmas.com/uniforms.html
Menjo Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 The Tokaido gi is actually very nice, and friend of mine also has one and its everything youd ever need for any type of karate training. Although I only got the traditional cut one, anyway good luck. "Time is what we want most, but what we use worst"William Penn
