I have never been approached this way in a threatening manner. I have had friends ask to see something, and at times, I oblige. That is a different scenario, though. Otherwise, I would just avoid them and walk away.

I don't know what I would do if someone came into the school and asked that question. Guess I'll have to wait and see.

Kind of a poor attitude to come on into a dojo and request that of a student or an instructor. Personally though I would have invited him to watch the class rather than perform a technique on him.

There was a similar post to this one a while ago and I really liked the answer someone gave. They said something to the effect of

I tell them I'll show them the most important move we learn. Then I turn around and walk away.

They tend to get freaked out a little when I show them a choke or three :)

I have only been asked "show me what you got" in a joking manner, so I usually reply with some sort of nonsense. :D

That is a good one! My one-sided training makes me automatically think of kicks and strikes. But as a grappler, I imagine your chokes would get quite a response! Very nice. I should open my mind some more.

Ever been asked "Show me what you've got?"

If so what did you do?

A few years ago we had someone from another style come to our dojo and ask me the above question. He then got into a fighting stance.

I politely replied "Really?"

He unknowingly said "Sure"

I then very quickly took him to the ground with a leg sweep that he never saw coming.

He got up off the ground and said embarrassingly "That was a good move, you will have to show that to me." He left and never came back.

i did.....thats all u need to no. :dead:

you must learn different combinations of techniques down to your very soul and they must come without thinking when you finish with one technique, you must immediately go into another until you have attained your goal which is to destroy the enemy.

can't say that I've ever had anyone come into any class that I've been part of with the intention of starting trouble. I also can't say that my knowing or practicing martial arts is the topic of many conversations. As a result, I don't get people asking me to show them anything. I do train in public places sometimes though but most people have more sense to ask a bunch of guys smacking each other around to "show them what they've got".
