Sorry to be the barer of bad tidings, but no, one doesn't exist.

You might be able to buy a book on self protection tips (all the peripheral stuff like avoiding dangerous areas, how to use your keys to poke people in the eye etc) but you cannot learn to fight from a book.

Unfortunately, this is the case, for the most part. It is best to find someone to learn with. Even if you just get with a friend, and start thinking about the types of attacks you may face when being jumped. Just experimenting may help you to learn some things.

You can get some good tips and advice from books, and some basic technical ideas. However, what you can't get from a book is instant feedback, which is one of the best tools to facilitate learning.

well, you could probably get some videos, to teach you some basic techniques, but i agree with what the others said, you can try teaching yourself, but its definetly better to learn from someone who knows what they are doing.

you can try but 9 times out of 10 actually 99 times out of 100 you'll be better off learning from an experienced instrtuctor who learned from somones skilled and experienced.

One man can't create a complete martial art from scratch. Every Martial Art is the accumulation of years of knowledge passed down from disciple to disciple.

one man learns how t okick and punch well, he teaches a student who then learns to kick and punch better and block. He teaches a student who learns how to kick and punch even better and block better. As time goes on techniques get more refined.

The fact that someone saves you the time of recreating the wheel. They teach you what they already have learned from previous dicovery and while you are still young you can perfect what you learn, discard what doesn't work and add what works for you.

Nothing can replace training under the supervision of an experienced instructor but I always say that learning from a book is better than no training.

If you do choose to learn something from a book, just try to learn the basics. If you can do that, then other things will come more easily to you. Everything will stem from the basics.

Also, with the wonderful World Wide Web, you can find tons of tutorials online, many through YouTube. Just type in a subject, and begin surfing around. A good book, supplemented by visual aids available via the internet might be able to get you the start that you want.

Then, I recommend pursuing an instructor, if at all possible.

get dvds on whatever calls ur attention- hopefully something with English Subtitles. Also,(if you find a dvd you might not need it, but) get books on whatever through amazon.com or whatever other site u can find.

Last but not least, find a teacher- there must be at least 1 about SOMETHING.

-the dvds and books wont teach you the martial art, but it will get you started.

You can learn to fight the old fashioned way by going out there and fighting. Don't bother looking at books and trying to do what you see because if all you want to do is fight, then that would be next to useless and do you more harm than good.
