sensei8 Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 It took me 6 years to reach Shodan. **Proof is on the floor!!!
Traymond Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 7 years for me to reach mine in brasshand, but you also have to know over twenty kata, before your able to reach Shodan. Most styles will get it to you in 2-4 years, which is great, but shodan is just merely the landing at a flight of steps, once your there, you have to start the next flight. Haha. quinteros1963 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 In my style/school it will take anywhere between 3.75 years or longer. For example it will take the following time in months to each kyu rank :10th gold 3-4 (its not given its earned), 9th orange 3-6, 8th purple 1st 3-5mos,7th purple 2nd 3-5, 6th green 3-5,5th 3-5 4th 3-6, 3rd brown - 1st brown 12, sho dan 6-12. Most would say that a black belt is no big deal, as you now know the basics. Its just the start!!! How much of an expert are you after four years of high school or college. Train hard and have fun. The past is no more; the future is yet to come. Nothing exist except for the here and now. Our grand business is not to see what lies dimly at a distance, but to do what's clearly is clearly at hand...Lets continue to train!
Daisho Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 7 years to the day that I started my training. That's with me missing less than 15 classes throughout those 7 years. I had the opportunity to take my shodan test about 9 months prior, but despite the fact that I keep myself in very good shape, the shodan test is extremely strenuous, and takes serious dedication to pass.
FushinRyu Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 wow those are really short times.... im only a brown black belt and i have 4 more belts to shodan.... and i skipped a few.. i've been doing my style for 4-5 years now proud brown belt of Fushin Ryu style!
