cherrybaby
I'm new to this, and I was wondering what a normal time period there is between going up in the ranks? Does it vary between different types of martial arts?
lordtariel
Depends on the rank and the person. Usually the early belts progress fairly quickly then space themselves out as you get more advanced. Somebody that's more talented may progress faster provided there's no time requirement between belts. I've never been in a school where this is the case. At our dojo there is usually a testing opportunity every month so it's a matter of just getting your requirements out of the way. ninjanurse
We test our students for promotion every 4 months until brown belt, then every 6 months or so until probationary black. Of course there are requirements to be met regardless of time-in-rank. bushido_man96
I have seen two month cycles, three month, and some of those listed above. It really depends on the school. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
ShawnJ
At my dojo, the first two gradings (1st and second green tip) are every two months. The belt promotions are every six months until you reach black tips, then it's a year before the black belt promotion. G95champ
We do 3 months and 30 classes. (2 hr classes)Usually works out about right. If a person has 3 months but has been missing they can not test. In some cases a person does not come to class but is able to train at home and make progress in that casue 4-5 and maybe like 20 classes. Bottom line you know when your ready. Well I should say you teacher knows. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory." marie curie
earlier ranks are usually every 3-4 months, then every 6-8 months, then longer term- like a year or 18 months You suck-train harder.......................Don't block with your faceA good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving. -Lao Tzu
