Jackets Posted May 26, 2002 Posted May 26, 2002 Does any one know what KOEI KAN KARATE focuses on? Is it well rounded? I'm looking to get into some MMA type training and am looking for an art with striking and grapbling. Expecially grappling as it is what I'm most natural at. THanks guys!
Karateka_latino Posted May 28, 2002 Posted May 28, 2002 If MMA is what you want.. then you should try one or two of the following styles :BJJ , Wrestling, Submission Wrestling, Sambo for Grappling.. and Muay thai and Boxing for striking. I say it because those are the most popular styles in the world of MMA and the Fighters usually don't train in one well rounded style, they train with several coaches (one for Boxing, One of BJJ, etc..) and they make there own Mix and each fighter develop a style based on there own attributes. I've never heard of that Karate Style you mention, but neither of the Karate Styles have been really sucesfull in MMA.
Pacificshore Posted May 28, 2002 Posted May 28, 2002 If I am not mistaken, Koei Kan Karate is a derivative of Shotokan karate/Japanese karate. It's focus is on punching and kicking, but I don't think that it focuses a lot on grappling. Di'DaDeeeee!!!Mind of Mencia
