Bo staff twirls

Featured Replies

Hey guys, ive been looking around the net and havn't really come across too much in terms of instruction in regards to twirls on the bo staff... Like i can do the figure 8, behind the back, over the head...

but im thinking about the tournament kind of twirls, like backwards figure 8's and some of the stuff you can find on youtube.

If you can't find anything could one of you make a vid with yourself just goin through the motions slowly thatd be a huge help.

Thnx obi

No chance of you finding a kobudo sensei in your area???? With all weapons and empty hand for that matter, there are so many little things that really need to be shown first hand.

Good Luck :)

A punch should stay like a treasure in the sleeve. It should not be used indiscrimately.

Kyan Chotoku Sensei

So are you referring to exhibition style katas like xma(actually tossing the weapon and such) or classical weapon katas such as you see in okinawan kobudo. Suprisingly a lot of the techniques fire dancers use work are the same types of techniques you see with the people who twirl. You might want to see if you can find some tutorials on that as well.

And yes i mean the xma stuff as the tournaments i go to do not seperate traditional and creative weapon forms... so the only way to compete is to join em...

Twirling eh?, in the traditional forms you might adapt some of the moves, it'll be easier to learn traditional forms from proper ko-budo instructors, and adapt them with spinning. or you could go to one of those xma tournaments and get one of them to teach you the proverbial "tricks of the trade"

I wish I wish I hadn't killed that fish

Chinese staff focuses on larger more circular techniques, you might want to take a look into some of those.
