My sensei told me that I should wrap hockey tape near the end of my bokken so I can get a better grip so it does not fly out of my hands. I just got my bokken on the 25th of April.

i think what he meant was just layer on the tape till u have a kind of jut around the bottom that your fingers will hook onto instead of sliding off... personally... and i just thought of this on the spot so ud be a first to try it....

try buying tennis raquet grip tape, and using that to wrap the handle of your bokken... it might work... it seems like a genius idea in my head right now

Start out with the tape at a slight angle,

\

wrap to one tape-width before you want it to end, and then start pulling the tape closer to strait across,

-

but the time you are finished with the next wrap around it, it should be pretty much strait across.

One of the guys in my class wrapped his sai with raquetball tape. It works really great, not sticky at all.

My sai were pre-wrapped and I put PVC tape on the ends of mine so the gripping doesn't fall off.

If you can't find hockey tape, electrical tape is better than nothing. However, if you can find the hockey tape, you can either wrap it around the handle in a normal fashion, or you can use the method of tsukamaki. There are sites that will show you this better than I can explain it.
