Kung Fu grunger Posted May 23, 2002 Posted May 23, 2002 I am thinking of starting weapons training and I was wondering what is the best weapon to start with. It needs to have power but it must require a certain amount of skill to use. Does anyone have any idea's????? It's not good enough to think you can can do it you have to actually do it!!--Jason (black red black belt in Kung fu)--
tessone Posted May 23, 2002 Posted May 23, 2002 Every martial artist I know started with the staff. Chris TessoneBrown Belt, Kuk Sool Won
Pacificshore Posted May 23, 2002 Posted May 23, 2002 I agree, start with the Bo(staff). It is a weapon that is easy to learn yet can have many intricate maipulations to it. Di'DaDeeeee!!!Mind of Mencia
Withers M.A.A. Posted May 24, 2002 Posted May 24, 2002 Start with the bo because it is the most basic and most practical. Everyone can find a stick to pick up. If done properly the bo can be very flashy. Good luck, Pete 2nd Degree black belt in Kenpo Karate and Tae Kwon Do. 1997 NASKA competitor-2nd place Nationally in Blackbelt American Forms. tessone Posted May 24, 2002 Posted May 24, 2002 Very true about the flashiness. It's surprising how simple moves can look *really* impressive to someone who's watching. Chris TessoneBrown Belt, Kuk Sool Won
tsdstud Posted May 24, 2002 Posted May 24, 2002 Yeah bong (Bo, staff, whatever you want to call it) is a good place to start. It's where we usually start in my school. Lot less painful than nunchuku when first starting out! cho dan TSD"Every second that you are not training, someone somewhere is training to kick your butt"- Kyo Sa Lyle (my instructor) "Where we going in 5 months?!?!?!" tessone Posted May 24, 2002 Posted May 24, 2002 I dunno about that. I've clocked myself pretty hard in the arms and head with a bong before. Not fun. Chris TessoneBrown Belt, Kuk Sool Won
Mo_Tseu Posted May 24, 2002 Posted May 24, 2002 I recommend to begin the art of Kali which begin with one stick about 2-3 feets long then with two stick, then with one stick and one knive, then with whatever you want to express your. Try to escape an attack from a stick, it's practically impossible. HAVE FUN AND KICK ASSES!!!! Wing Chun Kung Fu (Yip Man) andKali (Pekiti Tersia) martial artist (no belts needed)

Tobias_Reece Posted May 24, 2002 Posted May 24, 2002 Yup, the staff is a very versitile weapon, and is very good as a first weapon "You Are Never Given A Dream Without Also Being Given The Power To Make It True.
