masterintraining Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 for those of you that do not know who i am talking about, go to https://www.youtube.com and search "kimbo fight" there is a street boxer known as kimbo who from what i have heard has only been defeated once by a UFC fighter, i was wondering how someone like me who practices mantis kung-fu and am only 5-9 1/2 whould beat a streatboxer like kimbo, especially since many people try to use boxing in a streat fight because it is effective and easy to imitate if u dont actually practice it. thanks you must learn different combinations of techniques down to your very soul and they must come without thinking when you finish with one technique, you must immediately go into another until you have attained your goal which is to destroy the enemy.
The BB of C Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Outspeed him. If you can connect a good, strong, high kick to his temple before he can block. You have a good chance of winning.
bushido_man96 Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 When someone has that much experience fighting, then mixing it up with them is not going to be fun. Trying to kick them in the head may get you put on your back.If he is going to attack you, then it will all be in close, so you will need to get him away from you as quickly as possible. Punching and clinching might work for you, so that you can land close range attacks. Then, as soon as you get him distracted or disoriented, you try to get away.Think self-protection before self-defense. Sometimes not fighting is the best thing you can do to defend yourself. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Elky Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 This is exactly where "person not art" comes into play. Sometimes you might have to just accept that discression is the better part of valor and high-tail it. If some nutter who's spent his whole life fighting asks you if you think you're tough, there's a time to say "no sir, I think you're plenty tougher than me!" and keep your nose intact rather than your dignity.
username8517 Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Another thing to keep in mind is that many street boxers will generally focus solely on their hands for attacks. Use your feet to deliver quick kicks to your opponents shins and knees-- and keep them low and fast. Even if you don't inflict a lot of damage with them it will certainly distract your opponent to give you an opening for other avenues of attack.
cross Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 i was wondering how someone like me who practices mantis kung-fu and am only 5-9 1/2 whould beat a streatboxer like kimbo Whats your existing gameplan from your mantis kung-fu training? Outspeed him. If you can connect a good, strong, high kick to his temple before he can block. You have a good chance of winning.Personally, any sort of kick that didnt involve me driving my knee into the other persons leg, would be a last resort in any situation. Sure, if you connect with a strong high kick you might win. But thats a huge IF, and a risk i wouldnt be willing to take. Miss the kick, or hit him with little force and you make him angrier or end up on your back in a worse position than you started.Think self-protection before self-defense. Sometimes not fighting is the best thing you can do to defend yourself.I completely agree.Back to the original question, how to deal with a kimbo like character? Firstly, these are organised events and the fights are usually for money. So obviously do get involved in organised fights. From there you have to ask when and why you would likely be attacked by such a person. Usually they will want something (money, your possessions, your body), or they will feel that you have offended them in some way (looking at there girlfriend, staring at them, bumping into them). Now you begin to realise there are a whole load of things you can do before the fight even starts to avoid it happening. Having a well practiced gameplan is half the battle. Being able to execute it, is the rest.Just a FYI, Kimbo has been defeated before, under interesting circumstances:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LOIDj9TTfU&mode=related&search=
ps1 Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 This guy takes it to him pretty well. He doesn't really even seem that skilled. His guillotine attempts really stink, even though Kimbo is in position for them. Of course, Kimbo may have just been strong enough to power out. He does look as though he can lift a tractor.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LOIDj9TTfUAnyway, keep in mind that boxing is not easy to imitate. This guy seems like he has alot of street experience, not to mention he's huge! At 5'9", I would hope your first option would be to flee! If fleeing is not possible, force him to grab you. If he's holding you, he's not hitting you. Then think groin and eyes. Fact is, it's a bad situation. Just get out alive and you've won. Something in me feels like Kimbo isn't the type of guy who is gonna just attack people though.PS, how awesome is it that he looks like Mr T? "It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenius."
ps1 Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 I suspect you're right. "It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenius."
bushido_man96 Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 After reading this much about this guy, I think that I would consider improvised weapons, or even a bat.I don't want to dance with anyone that big. I have to go to work the next day. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
