I've noticed recently that, on the whole, I'm about the same standard as other people my grade, better than the lower grades, and generally worse than the higher grades. I think that's a good indication that I'm exactly where I should be.

That's a good way to look at it, Elky. You can effectively see the road behind you, where you are on the road at this point in time, and you can also see where the road can take you.

We must always keep in mind that there is someone better, faster, more powerful, etc., and constantly train to improve ourselves....and our students.

And they're usually waiting in the wings to knock you on your butt when you get too cocky.

...which is a good thing, because it gets your training back on track.
