nine_weapons Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 Kung Fu does not have differant color sashes for higher ranks?initially, no. these days, some schools do and some still do not.You do have a ranking system in that there are some moves taught beofre others Im sure.that's not ranking, that is just natural progression. In MMA does it really matter if you learn to kick, punch, sprawl, gurad or mount first?how can you do an armbar from the guard if you do not even know how to apply the guard? how can you knee from the clinch if you don't know how to properly clinch? Like I said, natural progression. My thoughts on martial arts and weight training:http://www.hesfit.com/men/comment/bodyweight-training-vs-weight-training-a-martial-artists-perspective/
bushido_man96 Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 SimpleNo belt, No Test, No ranking system, No Martial Art.Just a combo of others.I really don't think it is this simple. Muay Thai doesn't use ranks. Neither does Boxing or Wrestling. When the Martial Arts were originally used to train warriors in the ways of hands and weapons, they weren't issued belts to wear. You learned, practiced, and trained. Your ability was tested, and everyone pretty well knew where you stood. The belt ranking system is a relatively new innovation, when compared to how long Martial Styles have been around. I believe that Kano introduced the belt system in his Judo curriculum, and Funakoshi adopted it as well. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
