Eye of the Tiger Posted May 22, 2002 Posted May 22, 2002 ECKA=English Contact Karte Association is a Karate style that I guess was made in England. It has a kicboxing stance with your feet and fists close together. Whereas shotokan karate has its feet wide apart. I was always told that you could always sweep a shotokan feet. and because their feet were so far apart they would fall over. Who do you think could win. The new style of karate or shotokan Karate. Also take in mind ECKA is a practical full contact karate. Pacificshore Posted May 22, 2002 Posted May 22, 2002 In my opinion it'll be the person that is the best trained practioner who has the most will and determination to win. The stances that one person uses in a fighting situation does not mean they will win or loose a fight. A well trained Shotokan stylist is not as easily swept as one might think base on their stance. As is the person with a "normal" fighting stance. Both would be in constant motion with continuous distance changes. To sweep a Shotokan stylist while they are rooted in their stance is a difficult thing. It'll all about timing. Just as it would be for the more "modern" karate stylist. Di'DaDeeeee!!!Mind of Mencia
Eye of the Tiger Posted May 22, 2002 Author Posted May 22, 2002 ok I see what you mean. All I wanted to know what do you think is the most effective martial art in a street fight. If not out of them selves.
Eye of the Tiger Posted May 22, 2002 Author Posted May 22, 2002 I agree. Its not the martial art thats important its the person but the persone who does it. I was being a bit ignorant there. I prefere the Japanese style of karate as it is a more stable karate than the English style one.
Pacificshore Posted May 22, 2002 Posted May 22, 2002 In my opinion once again, I really think that any martial arts can be street effective. It's just a matter of application/and understanding of techniques, being focused, and having a strong will to survive. The same would apply to any combat system where pure fighting is taught.
