Anyone who knows the Tongbei quan style? A Monkey Fist style. It's being taught in Denmark in a Wushu school. The schools wepsite say that it is viewed as one of Old China's most effective arts. I'm wondering if anyone here knows if it's true or not. Is it effective in combat?

Is Monkey Fist styles in general effective?

I think that the effectiveness of any style will be related to how the instructors present the information to the students. If they teach a self-defense oriented way, then I am sure it can be. But to look at a style on paper and wonder if it is effective, that is hard to know.

Tong Bei is a fairly effective long fist style.

It focuses on open handed strikes that are relentless.

Supposedly, Baguazhang palm strikes come from Tong Bei, but instead of the linear footwork of tong bei, bagua uses circular footwork.
