NightOwl Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 I think bench fighting is a good example of how MA's can adapt to their environment. Just like today, a lot of fights happened in taverns, and the thin bench used in these forms was often used for seating in china. Thus someone decided that it'd be a good idea to use them as a weapon, and the bench move set was created. Of course it is mostly for show now, but it reminds me of how the Okinawans incorporated farming tools into their training. Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.~Theodore Roosevelt
bushido_man96 Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Very cool. Reminds me of some scenes from some Jackie Chan movies. It is a very unique form. Was he conking himself on the head with that bench, though? https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Bajifan Posted March 23, 2007 Author Posted March 23, 2007 Yeah, I assume he's demonstrating his Iron Head skill
TigerCrane Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Heh, let's see how his bench-fighting techniques fare against my Tiger Crane style!LoL... he could probably beat the crap out of me. Gong Kiu, Yau Kiu, Bik Kiu, Jik Kiu, Fun Kiu, Ding Kiu, Chieun Kiu, Tai Kiu, Lau Kiu, Wan Kiu, Jai Kiu, Deng Kiu.
Comfy Chair Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 The hit yourself in the face with a bench portion seems somewhat counterproductive.
bushido_man96 Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 The hit yourself in the face with a bench portion seems somewhat counterproductive.I kind of thought the same thing. However, there could be a reason. Head conditioning for head butting, I guess. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
