JGBurnum Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 How many of you have to have a certain color gear for tournaments? I'm in TSD and I don't believe it is limited in their tournaments. Just tested for my orange belt...Tang Soo!
white owl Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 It does not matter with the tournaments that I attend. I am with the PKC and PKRA.

I'm in TSD and I don't believe it is limited in their tournaments. We must wear all white unless it matches the color of our chest protector-red or blue-which means you have to have two complete sets (one of each color) if you choose to go this way. White is just easier-then all you have to do is change the chest protector! I'm in TSD and I don't believe it is limited in their tournaments. For us, regional stuff it doesn't matter, national they like it to be red or blue and for international you have to have a set of both red and blue because you can get designated either colour per match (think they want to phase this into nationals too). JohnASE Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 The WKF (World Karate Federation) requires one competitor to wear red gear and the other blue. I heard they chose not to do red and white because they thought white would be harder to see against a white gi. But they were also trying to get into the Olympics, so I'm sure the red and blue used by other sports had something to do with it.At open style tournaments (NASKA/NBL type), I've had top level competitors tell me they wear white punches and kicks so their scoring strikes are easier to see against the black and multi-colored uniforms you often see there.Of course, this is all hearsay. The article marie curie linked to has me intrigued. I'd love to see the data!I think a Macho sales rep once told me that red was their most popular color because some organizations required red. We sell way more black though.
