What to do after a conflict

Recommended Posts

DWx, the college has the responsibility to ensure your safety.

The night you are on campus late, call campus security.

They have to provide you an escort to your dorm or car.

It may take some time for them to get there to do this, but it is much safer than going it alone.

Oh sorry, 'cross atlantic misunderstandings. In the UK college is the same as high school? I'm doing 6th form a-levels if that helps...

So basically, no security (unless you count the crazy chaplin and weird caretaker).

(This has to be provided when asked for anywhere college, food store, restaurant. If you ask, they say no, you get attacked and survive, you can sue, sue, sue)

When i was in college, my fraternity volunteered with the campus police to escort ladies around campus at night if they called security.

I would not put that much effort into what the consequences would be if someone is trying to rape\sexually attack you.

Its great to think about consequences, but consequences mean nothing if your dead!

by calling security, your martial arts is working effectively. i mean you have removed yourself from any potential harm that could have happened.

I hope this helped.

Keep safe.

Great post.

Clearly in a situation where someone wishes to cause you great harm and grief, you want to subdue the agressor(s) first then once that is done do not go any further you do not want serious issues with the law, just be thankful they are the subdued ones and not you. once that is done with, if it is a place where someone is around i would grab someone else and tell them to go and call for help and or authorities. if not, you should get the help yourself. number one is make sure your safe, second is authorities/ambulatory services so as to keep others safe, and not get your, you know what, sued off.

I think especially in a situation like a rape attempt, you have to be willing to try to hurt- even kill the other person as much as possible if it means your safety...it's a decision that is not easily made on the spot. Any situation where your life or the life of others is threatened (and I consider rape at that level of assault-not just some bar brawl), you have to have pre-made up your mind if you are willing to inflict that much harm on another human being, or else you are more likely to hesitate at great risk to yourself. I think it is especially important for women to decide whether or not they could grab and attempt to crush an attackers eyes, groin, etc, or bite with the attempt to take out bits of arm, even though it would be gross to do; because once you are there you are forced into that decision, and you only have seconds (if that) to decide. Personally, the well being of an attacker does not take precedence over that of my own or those that I care about, and I am willing to ride out the consequences later if it means that I can live another day.

Some bum throwing punches at me is different , as they are not trying to kill me per se- and thus my goal would be to take the fight out of them to where I could get away rather than go into jungle survivor mode-

It depends.....But If we dont have witness , and we are talkin´bout a dark nite :

If some street punk attack me , and he fall and hit his head and then die.... I would probably get the hell out of there....I dont wanna risk my freedom.

If for example , I broke his nose/arm , etc...I would run too.... Those lowlife people tends to go to trial to get ur money for civil damage !

In the actual world... criminal law tends to protect more the criminal than the good guy.. So , if no witness , no proofs....RUN !

Some good thoughts all around.

As a former LEO I would definitely suggest contacting the authorities after the altercation.

If someone only saw part of the event they maybe calling the police to report you as the assailant, also if it was a mugging or other violent crime chances are the person is wanted and police are looking for him/her. As far as providing first aid, if you do not feel like you are in safe surroundings or are not trained in first aid there really is not much you can do.

Lastly you want to get yourself check out medically. You may have been injured in the altercation but don’t realize it because of all the adrenaline in your system.

Too early in the morning? Get up and train.

Cold and wet outside? Go train.

Tired? Weary of the whole journey and longing just for a moment to stop and rest? Train. ~ Dave Lowry

Great points. We try to be non-violent and resolve situations amicably. Barring that, we seek to do the minimum damage required to resolve the situation in our favor - proportional response.

But when it is time to kill in defense or self or others, you had better have decided that you will do so with every ounce of your being and not stop until it is over. Then, do it well and with a lethality the ensures the outcome. And then tell the authorities.
