Hey all... stumbled on this forum quite accidentally really.

I began my training studying Tang Soo Do under a man I respect very much in Brookfield, CT almost nine years ago - was about to test for Green belt when my parents moved me.

From there I moved onto an excellent TKD school near Rochester, NY - got to Blue Belt if memory serves.

From there my parents took me to a suburb of Orlando where I trained in Kenpo and got up to Brown Belt.

And from there they took me outside of Kansas City where I entered into a contract with a McDojo (as I've heard it referred to) which basically ended my drive for martial arts. :kaioken: Because of the contract I wasn't able to afford training anywhere else and have basically been on a 3 year hiatus since.

I'd like to get back started - more than likely in Tang Soo Do or Tae Kwon Do again (because I prefer the method of sparring) And also would really like to finally acheive a black belt at a good school and do some weapon training. However lack of funds currently place a serious hamper on that, but hopefully soon.

Reading through these forums has excited me to try and get started again with my training. I'm stiff, unpracticed and unconditioned but hopefully I will find a school and begin training soon  - If anyone knows of a good school around Modesto, CA... feel free to let me know

Hi Pedro, welcome, and go for it, boyo!

(what do you mean by McDojo, and what sort of contract are you referring to? I haven't heard of this!)

Cheers!

By McDojo I meant that the guy running the school was only in it for the money. Just money hungry and willing to anything to get money. I signed a contract for two years and couldn't get out of it, that's why I was stuck with no money  I'm sure others here can elaborate on the McDojo theory. I first heard the term just reading through the posts here.

Welcome to the forum. You might want to check area YMCA'a and rec centers. They sometimes have programs where someone comes in and teaches. Some are quite good.
