does Aikido even use swords?

I think that Aikido gets heavily associated with Kendo, which is a swordsmanship style, that uses the shinai (bamboo sword) to practice.

Do NOT buy a half tang sword if you plan to use it. Half tang is STRICTLY for display only. I suggest buying the Nami Wave Katana by Paul Chen, it's an Iaito which is made for what your talking about.

I like aluminum for demonstrations- nice and light, so when you practice with a heavy one, your movement goes really smoothly.

If you're flinging that thing around, you should probably go with a sword that has a full tang. The last thing you want to happen is for the blade to come loose and spear something.(Happened to one of my friends using a Chinese broadsword once. Blade went right through his couch.)

There's no place like 127.0.0.1
