Eric7_27 Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 What kind of tournament or whatever is this?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jWLmKyjiTwWhy do they wear the chest protectors and other tournaments don't? I noticed the fighting style is more like olympic style and does more kicking, where like the AOK tournaments I have here in Texas use more punching, and no one wears chest protectors. Is it just something they do up north or is it a different thing like ITF or something. If so- where would I find those tourneys?
bushido_man96 Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 It is a Taekwondo tournament, fought under the WTF rules. It looked like they were using electronic scoring systems. The rules are points are (supposed) to be given for blows that create body displacement. Kicks to the body and head are allowed, and punches to the body, but not the face. No contact below the belt, or to the back. They do not break for points, and fight 3 2:00 or 3:00 minute rounds. This fight was by some low ranks, from what I could tell technique wise. More experienced fighters will use offensive or defensive strategies, counter fight, etc. At the Olympic level, it is very impressive to watch, and they are very good athletes. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
obiwansbane Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 3 2:00 min rounds is something id like to see in karate tournies... It will greatly improve a fighters stamina and ability to keep going. I feel that some tournament matches are over before they begin and one day you will fight someone who can last alot longer than you in the street and you will tire. Brown belt... win trophies... grade... lose trophies... so much fun
