I watched this (or a similar video) a while back with a guy who was teaching seniors how to use their walking sticks and canes as weapons for self defense:

I agree.

Blitz magazine Australia has done some interesting articles on La Canne and similar arts over the years, but it really does all look like a stick fighting art. In these they do note that not all canes have hooks... I guess it is a personal preference thing.

I don't much about Le Canne (nothing!) so I googled it. What's its history do you know? Kinda looked like related to fencing to me but with a looser feel, (maybe Savate?), especially given the French connection:

cane is a very good weapon.

We learn how to use it in Hapkido.

an umbrella with a hook handle can do the trick too.

legal and doesn't look like a weapon.

BUT IT HURTS!!! choke move,groin,leg pull,leg sweep, many hits....

and sleeves throwing (cool move by the way)....

:)
