Kante Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Hello,I am very interrested in starting to practice Wing Chun but the thing is, there are no instructors where i live (Israel)...I just really want to but it's not possible. I'm 15 years old so it's not possible for me to move, I've been training Shotokan Karate for 8 years and am a black belt, i think it would be great to learn a second martial art.So what do you think i should do?Thanks. bushido_man96 Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 If it isn't available in your area, then you are kind of stuck. You could look into some books and videos, but I wouldn't recommend trying to learn it like that. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Bajifan Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Why do you want to practice Wing Chun more than anything else?
Kante Posted February 28, 2007 Author Posted February 28, 2007 Why do you want to practice Wing Chun more than anything else? The main thing that attracted me to it is its blocking techniques. Bajifan Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 What kind of kungfu schools do you have around you? There might be something with some similarities that you haven't thought of.
Bajifan Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Other than that, you might just have to save up and travel when you're old enough. Some people just find something that they really feel they're suited for and have to travel to another teacher... in the meantime, you can continue to research Wing Chun. There's different branches, Yip Man, Pan Nam, etc. though I don't know what the differences would be between the various groups are.
bushido_man96 Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 What exposure have you had to the style? What do you know about it? https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Bajifan Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I don't have any direct experience myself, but I do know enough about it to have a general idea through past classmates, friends, and articles, on some generalities. Though, really, it'd be better if someone with actual Wing Chun experience could come out and give advice once the details of this kid's situation are clearer. You usually can't throw a stick on a CMA message board with out hitting a Wing Chun guy, so I imagine there's someone lurking around here with experience
