Kante
I'd like to know how to make my punches faster, is it all about the muscles and nothing but the muscles? Thanks "If you always put limits on what you can do, physical or anything else, it'll spread over into the rest of your life. It'll spread over into your work, into your mortality, into your entire being. There are no limits. There are plateaus, but you must not stay there, you must go beyond them. If it kills you, it kills you."Bruce Lee
Elky
Relax your shoulders, don't tense your arm until you have to, launch the punch with a good hip movement.
lordtariel
I agree... it's the hip that fires the punch, not the shoulders or arm muscles. The punch should be more like a whip. Make sure your punches are going in straight as well and not coming in at an arc. There's no place like 127.0.0.
learning kempo-karate
Hello, Have you read: Speed training, by Loren Christensen? ...there are also many other books/articles on speed hitting! Many require for you to do some fast and faster type of drills.Building proper muscles helps alot on this too. Most will say...to gain speed..the muscles must be relax before impact. For more power, which comes from the hips, upper shoulders and lifting off on the foot, and a direct line. How fast will you need to be? ...just enough to beat the other guy to it.Sucker punches do not have to be fast...just a surprise! Many of us will also mention proper breathing too...when to exhale and inhale (air). There are proper mechanics to every movements...study this well and work to perfect it.A smart fighter (knows when and where to hit)..does not need super speed. Speed is not always the answer in fight. If I step on your toes and keep my feet there and push you down...you will break your ankle and fight is over!Remember there are speed limits (on most highways) obey the laws...Speed can kill too! PS: A faster runner...will out run you....NO matter how fast you can punch!

If I step on your toes and keep my feet there and push you down...you will break your ankle and fight is over!I agree here. Many times what appears to be speed is expert timing. That's something that comes with experience and practice. Speed is just one component of the whole picture. Just be sure not to forsake the other important parts just to be fast. bushido_man96
Practicing on a punching bag, or a speed bag, can help as well. Technique first, though, then work on speed. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com

Xepher
One thing I noticed that works for my is get a five pound weight in your hand , go into the appropriete stance and practice your punches at full speed with the weight in your hand while breathing properly with your punches. It seems to have sped up my punches especially my reverse punch. Just remember not to hyperextend yourself
bushido_man96
Doing some plyometric exercises with the arms can help to build some explosiveness as well. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
