When I do either, I really try to keep my center of gravity. I keep my knees bent and head over rear. Obviously if you are doing a roundhouse or side kick etc..., you are going to be leaning back, but typically, I just try not to throw my balance off by leaning when it isn't necessary.

A great martial artist is one who is humble and respectful of others.

Your body should have a little bit of natural lean to it when kicking. However, when punching, if you lean back, you will take power and your body weight out of the punch. When punching, I try to keep my weight forward a little, of centered. It just depends on the situation.
