Feathers of Doom Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Last night i was bored so i looked up the history of my Goshin Do Karate style. i saw that it was created from Judo aikido and largly kobudo. then i wondered were they came from and i have a rather large tree now Goshin do Judo--:Jujitsu:Ch-an Fa (old form of kenpo i believe) - Tang su:_________________________________Shaolin-tzuAikido--:Judo - Spear Fighting - Fencing - O senseiKobudo--: has anyone else done this and if so post it also if you have any corrections or things to add to my tree its more than welcome. When practicing Nunchaku, it is best not to stand under lights....seriously; I have broken more lights that way.
karatekid1975 Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 The style I am in now, no clue. But when I did TSD, I can trace it back to Kwang Kee (Tang Soo Do founder). But my current instructor has "juice" on this style (TKD). I got a little from her, but not enough. Laurie F
lordtariel Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 The man who founded Shito-Ryu was Kenwa Mabuni. Mabuni studied Karate with Itosu(Shorin-Ryu) than later with Higaonna(Goju-Ryu) He also studied Kobudo under Aragaki where he learned to use Bo, Sai, Tonfas, Nunchaku, Nichokama, Kusari-Kama, Nunte, and Tempe. Blending the methods of Shorin and Gojo, he came up with what he called "Hanko" or "Half-Hard style. Later he changed the name to Shito deriving the name from the alternate reading of the ideograms found in the names of his former teachers "shi" for the "ito" of Itosu and "to" for the "higa" of Higaonna. There's no place like 127.0.0.1
username8517 Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 As the most senior living student of Nagamine Sensei (founder of Matsubayashi-Ryu), Taba Sensei created Shogen-Ryu ('Sho' in honor of Shoshin Nagamine and Shorin. 'Gen' meaning root or beginning) as a way to teach Nagamine Sensei's karate in the form he was originally taught.
patusai Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 Wow,,,Isshin Ryu created from Shorin Ryu and Goju Ryu and some other stuff depending on who you talk to.So Ryu, Koyasu was a student of Toyama who was a student of Itosu so I suppoe it goes back that way "Don't tell me the sky's the limit because I have seen footprints on the moon!" -- Paul Brandt
