true_practioner_of Kokoro Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Do many of you guys think that Capoeria is an effective martial art? Seems pretty fancy and cool with some of the moves they do. I enter my first tournament next weekend, gonna be going against other brown and red belts from karate, taekwondo, and some kung fu people will be competing should be interesting.
bushido_man96 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Sounds cool. I have always liked to watch Caporiea, but have never had the opportunity to try it.When you go to compete, check with some judges about the sparring rules. They may not allow hand stands and the like. So check, just to be sure. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
lordtariel Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I've never had a chance to encounter it, other than watching videos. I'd say it's more the artist than the art in a style vs style matchup though. Good luck and let us know how well it worked out. There's no place like 127.0.0.1
learning kempo-karate Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Hello, IN the end, everyone fights the same way. ..just my thoughts on this.....Aloha
ps1 Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Hello, IN the end, everyone fights the same way. ..just my thoughts on this.....AlohaI know what you're getting at. But don't necessarily agree. If you encountered Mike Tyson in a fight, he would fight alot differently than if you encounter Rickson Gracie. It all has to do with who you've trained with. As far as the effectiveness of Capoeria, I've only seen it in the dance form. I've never seen them practice any kind of fighting or self defense. I've seen movies, but I would not believe that's how it's actually used. "It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenius."

It is all about methods of using them. Here is an interesting article on the subject: http://www.karateforums.com/a-principle-of-fighting-vt8176.htmlI think this may be the point you are trying to make. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
learning kempo-karate Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Hello, UM? Every art has there style of stances, forms, and movements. But on the streets when attack? ...everyone fights pretty much boxing stances and style of fighting. Yes, the grapplers will SHOOT for a takedowns. Why? because it is so natural for everyone to throw punches and fight standing up, until the fight goes to the ground. (which may or maynot happen). You will need to watch REAL fighting...not ring fighting. Nice thing about our opinions we may not agree many times...that is all right!NO two fights or encounters will be the same. Many fights end with one punch (sucker punches)......Aloha (as time goes on...sometimes opinion's changes)

If that were the case, learning to fight well would be so much simpler. Some people will throw haymakers. Some will jab and move. Some will slip and counter. Others may attempt a low kick before punching. Some may punch, and then clinch. These are all different styles, although they may involve the same techniques. Every fight is different because every fighter is different...from a style standpoint. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com

Most people do not fight with a boxing stance- most people have no stance whatsoever because they have no idea what they're doing.Ring fighting is real fighting- theres no two ways about it. What you're referring to is "street fighting" and I've seen plenty of that. To be quite honost, its atrocious and hurts my eyes to watch people fight when they are so bad at it.
