Angus Posted August 1, 2001 Author Posted August 1, 2001 What are the moves like? Are they street applicable? Angus Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.
iamrushman Posted August 1, 2001 Posted August 1, 2001 i really enjoy the music they use and the moves are very quick and fluid. rushman (karate forums sensei)3rd dan wtf/kukkiwon"saying nothing...sometimes says the most"--e. dickerson
shortdog Posted August 2, 2001 Posted August 2, 2001 most of the moves are not useable in a street fight, but some are very useful. but lots of the basic moves are just like normal martial moves, the meia lua de frente is just a frontkick. but the chapa-de-costa is when you are on all fours and kick straight back. i like the meia lua de compaso. it is a very stroung spinning kick, you spin as fast as you can and put your hands on the ground to support yourself. it all depends on your fighting style if you like fance takedowns you might like the negative derrubando (negative means it is preformed from the ground) your opponent kicks and you drop down and hook his ankle with your foot, and yank it out from under him. i could go on for quite some time listing moves. some moves are verg practicle but also i doubt you would do a cartwheel in a street fight. but in brazil it was used as a self defence art. http://www.wu-wien.ac.at/usr/h96b/h9650297/capoeira.html SHORTDOG In the road of life there are many paths. iamrushman Posted August 2, 2001 Posted August 2, 2001 their spinning back kicks are deadly and deceptive due to how the upper body goes down and the hands are on the ground. just how shortdog described. rushman (karate forums sensei)3rd dan wtf/kukkiwon"saying nothing...sometimes says the most"--e. dickerson

thaiboxerken Posted August 12, 2001 Posted August 12, 2001 Capoeria is.. FUN.. it is not as effective as other self-defense methods, but that is because it was incorporated into dance to diguise itself from the slavers. I personally think that it is outdated now and needs to be modernized, but sometimes tradition keeps it fun. To become higher ranked in Capoeria, one must learn to sing, dance and play the musical instruments. If you want to see some Capoeria in a movie, check out "Only the Strong" and "BloodSport 3". Just kick 'em, they'll understand.- Me Apprentice Instructor under Guro Inosanto in Jun Fan Gung Fu and Filipinno Martial arts.Certified Instructor of Frank Cucci's Linxx system of martial arts.
