Hello there i was just wondering the length of time it took for people to reach there first black grade. In my own case it was around 3 1/2yr's for my jiu jitsu 1st dan. In WC it took me 5 yr's to achieve my 1st degree. Both of these systems i trained on a regular basis taking private & sessions outside of class.

The poll only has two options, which are nearly the same. It doesn't take into account all the other time frames. I'd say three years to a billion years, depending on the student. Three being the minimum, three to five being the average.

I'd say about three years if the person is attending class three times a week and practicing on their own, but that number is subject to change. Someone who practices 4 hours a day, five days a week and then trains at home is going to get his belt much faster than the guy who comes in twice every other week.

There's no place like 127.0.0.1

it all depends on how hard you train in that time frame, i know people who got their 1st dan in 2 years, but took that doesnt make them any less skilled or make the grading easier

It depends. In Isshin Ryu some have received Shodan in 18 months. In other styles the time varies. Considering it is a beginning and not an end it does not have tov take a long time.

I've been training in TKD for 5 years, and I'm just a 1st gup. But I have seen anywhere from 2 to 7 years for BB. I think the longest was 7 (it was a kid at the main dojang, but she got hurt a lot in other sports she was in).

anywhere between 3 1/2 and 6 years is the norm for most studios. it definately depends on the studio and person though.
