Enter the Spaz Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Here is a video compilation of Sucker Punches, done in typical youtube fashion with horrible music and all http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=11de4ea590So if you've never seen what a sucker punch looks like.... Seems like many of the people in the video could avoid this from happening with a change of lifestyle. How would you defend against these?
cross Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 How would you defend against these? The ones that you dont have a chance to see coming... Not alot you can do other than try and recover from the position your left in. In some of those clips where a person was hit from the side of behind they were focused completely on the person in front of them and almost blind to anything else going on around them.Against all the others, get your hands up for a start. If someone is that close to you and clearly acting aggressively, a passive stance works wonders. It puts your hands directly in the way of anything they will try to do, while remaining non-threatening and increasing your natural reflexive reactions. One thing in common with alot of those clips was the person being hit stood still, had their hands low, staring down the attacker trying to do the chest out tough guy thing. Not the way to deal with such a situation.
Jay Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 Haha eminem is quality I think the thing is to make sure everyone is in front of you so that you know where everyone is. But to be honest the best way is not to get urself in a situation where you against mulitple people you always going to lose. The key to everything is continuity achieved by discipline.
glockmeister Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 Yeah watching these clips makes me think alot about distancing. If someone is that close to you I would back up a step or two or tell them "that's close enough" "You know the best thing about pain? It let's you know you're not dead yet!"http://geshmacheyid.forumotion.com/f14-self-defense
daizyblackbelt Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 yeah, no matter how good you are, it's nearly impossible to block something from that close (except by luck). best bet is to act with caution and keep your distance.
bushido_man96 Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 As mentioned by glockmeister, distance would be a good thing. Keeping everyone where you can see them would be great as well, but if there are too many around you, you won't be able to see them all.I would say that if you feel a threat, be the one to punch first. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
BLueDevil Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Most everybody agrees that distance is a key factor when defending the punch by suckers. If they get to close, in certain situations would warrent that an act of aggression that would need to be delt with by striking first. You have to be able to judge for yourself where this is neccasary or not. There is no teacher but the enemy.
tke010 Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 This was an interesting video clip.I did not like the footage of the female officer getting beaten up. I remember seeing that on the news, she survived and her attacker went to jail.I am not a police officer, but I have many friends that are. I probably would have stopped and helped that officer.just like the previous posts, you should always try and avoid any situation, if you cannot then you need to try and keep your potential attackers in front of you with your hands up in defensive, non-threatening manner. awareness is key. Fear does not exist in this Dojo, does it! No Sensai!!!Pain does not exist in this Dojo, does it! No Sensai!!!
Enter the Spaz Posted February 1, 2007 Author Posted February 1, 2007 I agree with everyone who advocates maintaining distance and awareness. It looks like some on this clip knew that they were in a confrontational situation, yet they stood their like a deer in the headlights. And then some had no idea it was coming, I guess there's not much that could be done there. On the other side of the coin, since preemptive strikes are all the rage in the RBSD arena one could see how a preemptive strike could be carried out, like the guy who turns to walk away and then turns back and strikes, or the nice uppercut the one guy pulled off from having his hands low. Hi Cross, I'm not sure what the passive stance entails, could you elaborate a bit. Thank you.
glockmeister Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 I can answer that. The Passive stance is when you bring both hand up to your face with the palms open in an attempt to appear docile and as if you are tring to calm the person down, you can however strike, block or intercept or even attain a clinch from this position.
