tdiedwards Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 hi,my fist is weird. my middle and index (especially) fingers stick out so it's impossible to make good contact with the 1st knuckles without those 2nd knuckles making contact. i can't even force my fingers into a fist where this situation doesn't occur. my brother has the same fist, so i guess it's genetic. obviously, it causes lots of problems and hurts.does anyone else have a weird fist like this, and/ or have any advice?no response thus far has been to avoid punching people whenever possible. cheers, tim
TigerDude Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 I'm having trouble understanding what you mean. Are you saying that you cannot make a 90 degree bend to the fingers?I have seen articles on a different way to make a fist that is not curling the fingers under, but instead laying the first 2 fingers flat against the palm to make a tighter fist, but I can't recall where. Maybe this would help you. If you think only of hitting, springing, striking or touching the enemy, you will not be able actually to cut him. You must thoroughly research this. - Musashi
Jay Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 I understand what you mean. I always have a problem with my knucles on hook punches they always really hurt my hands so i dont really train them. I have found that keeping you finger nail short helps this allows you to make a tighter fist. Im really not sure how to help you. You know when you say you cant force you fist into a situation where this wont occur does it hurt when you do this or is it just physically impossible. If it hurts then you may want to work on your finger flexability. The key to everything is continuity achieved by discipline.
tdiedwards Posted January 28, 2007 Author Posted January 28, 2007 hi, in reply to both of the above:"Are you saying that you cannot make a 90 degree bend to the fingers?"yes, exactly. little finger goes easily to 90 degrees, but each successive finger bends less. the index finger is at 45 dgrees. i can force it an extra 10 degrees, but it springs back...and feels like a dodgy thing to be doing."You know when you say you cant force you fist into a situation where this wont occur does it hurt when you do this or is it just physically impossible. "As far as i can tell, it's physically impossible. then again...a few things i once thought were physically impossible i can now do. maybe it's flexibility."I have seen articles on a different way to make a fist that is not curling the fingers under, but instead laying the first 2 fingers flat against the palm to make a tighter fist, but I can't recall where. Maybe this would help you."It does help. Definately an improved fist. Thanks,Tim

granmasterchen Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 i would suggest focusing on techniques that aren't fist related....kicks, elbows, knees, ridge hands, hand knives, palm strikes, tiger claws, eagle claw, and such.you may or may not be able to do a hammer fist, but from what you have said i think you would be able to execute the leopard paw strike very effectively. That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger
Red89 Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 I kind of have a similar problem, only its my fingers, I cant hold them straight for long and so i tend to stay away from spearhands etc.
AngelaG Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 If you are over 18 then I would recommend knuckle push-ups to try and tighten that fist. Below that your body might still be developing and I would not recommend them, as you may do yourself permanent damage.
