ckdstudent
Given that an axe kick should be throwing all of your leg-weight plus a lot of your strength straight downwards through the target the straight punch to follow might be a little redundant. A half-decent downwards kick can break just about any bone you put in its way, and if you target and connect with the head then your target isn't going to be standing at the end. ---------Pil SungJimmy B
Lau gar
We'll saying about how effective the axe kick is has reminded me. Against a good opponent they will block the axe kick so why not pull two front kicks afterwards penetrating there defense and in point sparring effectively scoring you a point blue belt Lau Gar Kung fu"know your enemy"
ckdstudent
Actually one fun thing to do is the axe, then when they block it bring your leg down and your other leg up in just about any linear kick, once your original kicking leg has landed you can throw that back up as the other comes down. Then you fall over. ---------Pil SungJimmy B
Withers M.A.A.
When you use an axe kick direct the kick to the persons face and not their head. This will do way more damage. A backfist is a good follow up tech. because of your momentum but a straight punch isn't a good idea cause it doesn't flow with the kick. ckdstudent
Generally I'd target across the chest, tearing off the pectoral muscles. Actually a backfist would require you to shift forwards and then recoil your hip backwards for the blow whereas a straight punch would require you to do nothing more than sink into the landing and bounce out with the punch. ---------Pil SungJimmy B
Withers M.A.A.
I would never do an ax kick to the chest. It would be a waste of energy and just aggrivate your opponent. As for the backfist... if you use the same hand as the ax kick it only makes sense. Your motion will be coming forward if the axe kick is done correctly and if you kick with your right leg you follow that up with a downward backfast to finish off your opponents face. ckdstudent
Apparently there's a slight difference in technique here. An axe kick across the chest can break rips and tear muscles off their anchors. For a backfist you need to have your bodyweight settled evenly or be standing slightly at an angle to your target, after finishing a downwards kick this doesn't really apply so the easier and faster technique is to settle your bodyweight down into your kicking leg and spring up with an inwards punch. ---------Pil SungJimmy B
Bretty101
AXE KICKS i love 'em. I do them all the time knock out after knock out. :brow: My trick is not to throw it stationary. Throw it up really high when your just out of range of your opponent. Then when its vertical do a big hop with you standing leg so your in range and drive it down onto their face. Lovely! obviously i can do this a bit quicker then two sentences and the amount of people who see this big kick and thinking they are well out of range just freeze and look up at it as it's coming down. Also with your leg between you and them it also covers your body. (mind you watch out for the sweep or the strike to the groin) :weirdlook: And my favourite follow up which always gets the crowd going. Is a big axe kick followed by a reverse roundhouse off my other leg. then stick a blitz on the end, sweet! I've also got a nice hook kick and a hook/axe hybrid kick. And just when people start wising up to it i fake it high and then dig low with a big side kick. tsdstud
I throw an axe-front. I throw an axe and chamber it back when it comes to my chest and throw a front kick to their stomach. cho dan TSD"Every second that you are not training, someone somewhere is training to kick your butt"- Kyo Sa Lyle (my instructor) "Where we going in 5 months?!?!?!"
